In World of Warcraft: Shadowlands you can obtain legendary items. We will reveal how to do this and what you need to keep in mind.
Legendary items have been unlocked in Shadowlands for quite a while, but the system is not entirely straightforward, and there is quite a bit to know about it. The most important aspect for most players is likely the ability to craft powerful legendary items themselves.
We will explain how you can obtain the new “Legendaries” and what you need to know to be happy with them.
Update: The article has been updated for Patch 9.2 Eternity’s End on March 16, 2022. It now includes all information about Legendarys rank 7 and the adjustments from Patch 9.2.

How to craft Legendaries in WoW: Shadowlands
The valuable orange items can be crafted by any player in WoW: Shadowlands who has reached level 60 and chosen a Covenant. Within the first missions of the Covenant campaign, you will unlock the Rune Carver in Torghast. This happens shortly after you free Baine from Torghast, so after your first excursions into the tower.
The Rune Carver has some additional quests for you and needs to gain a bit of his freedom first to assist you. The quests are linear and do not require any explanation—just follow the instructions until you eventually unlock the Rune Carver. One of the final quests asks you to collect 1,250 Soul Ash.
What is needed to craft legendary items?
To craft legendary items, several materials are required. These are:
- Soul Ash and depending on the rank, also Soul Cinders and Cosmic Flux
- A memory of the Rune Carver (the legendary power)
- A base item from a crafting profession
- Two inscriptions with secondary stats (from the Inscription profession)

Where to get the items?
The various required items can be obtained from different activities in the game. These include:
How to get Soul Ash: Soul Ash is obtained weekly from Torghast. When you complete the various corridors, there is Soul Ash as a reward at the end. You can farm as much Soul Ash per day and week as you want. There used to be a cap and diminishing returns, but now you can, if you want, collect as much ash and cinders per day as you want.
It is also important to know that you do not have to complete each level individually. If you complete level 3 of a particular section, you will also receive the rewards for levels 1 and 2 if you have not yet received them that week. So it is sufficient to complete the highest level (and thus the highest difficulty) each week.
Additionally, in rare cases, you can get a small amount of Soul Ash (about 150) from the adventures you can send your followers on in the Covenant Sanctum. A few story quests also give small amounts of Soul Ash.
The amount of Soul Ash available per week is not limited. You should visit Torghast every week – at least until you have crafted all desired Legendaries. This way, you keep the effort to a minimum.
How to get Soul Cinders: Soul Cinders is a new currency from Patch 9.1 Chains of Domination. You obtain it in the higher levels of Torghast, specifically in levels 9 to 12. Soul Cinders are needed to upgrade legendary items beyond rank 4. The primary source, therefore, is again Torghast, but you can also get Soul Cinders from some event bosses in the Maw.
Previously, Soul Cinders were limited to a weekly cap, but now you can farm them as much as you want.
How to get Cosmic Flux: Cosmic Flux is a new resource from Patch 9.2. It is needed for legendary items at level 7, but also to craft T-set pieces. Fortunately, you can obtain Cosmic Flux from numerous activities. These include:
