In WoW: Shadowlands you can earn money with professions in the long term. Because otherwise, players cannot obtain their legendary items.
Professions have become a contentious issue over the years in World of Warcraft. For a time, they were almost mandatory for many classes and provided strong advantages. However, in recent years, professions have felt somewhat neglected. After the launch phase of an expansion, many crafting professions could hardly produce anything meaningful that could be sold. With Shadowlands, that will change, and professions are getting a permanent source of income – namely the legendary items.
What was said? In the interview with WoWChakra, the Game Director also talked a bit about legendary items in Shadowlands. They are supposed to be a fixed part of the expansion and one of the goals for players. To achieve this, they need to climb Torghast and collect crafting materials from the tower. But more importantly, they also need to have a “raw item,” like a leather tunic or a robe with the potential to become a legendary item.
These raw items can be crafted by artisans of the respective professions and sold to other players.
Permanent relevance for professions
Legendary items different from Legion: With this, World of Warcraft is also taking a very different approach to the creation of legendary items than in Legion. Most items were initially available only randomly. If a class had a “mandatory legendary” and never received it, they were left out in the cold. In Shadowlands, every legendary can be specifically targeted. This ensures a clearly visible goal and more control over players’ loot.
What does that mean? In plain terms, this means that crafting professions (like tailoring, blacksmithing, and leatherworking) will be in demand throughout Shadowlands. There will always be players wanting to craft specific legendary items, requiring the raw piece from one of the professions. At least for these items, there should be a constant market that brings in some gold.
How this will affect the game remains to be seen soon in the Alpha of Shadowlands. If you want to take a look at the Alpha yourself, you should sign up for it.
Do you think this is a good solution? Or do all these professions need more to remain attractive? If so, what would that be?
