In a new blog post, Blizzard presented further information about a new area of World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. This time it is about Revendreth, the last of the four areas and the realm of the vampiric Venthyr.
What kind of area is this? Revendreth is the last area that you will travel through during the story of Shadowlands – presumably before heading into the end area “The Maw”.
Like the other areas, Revendreth suffers from a lack of anima and is barren and desolate, partly completely dried up and inhabited by monsters that don’t belong there. You begin your journey in Pridefall, for which we have prepared some screenshots for you:
In the story, Revendreth plays the role of “Purgatory”. The dead are supposed to be cleansed of their sins here, before they can decide whether to join the resident Venthyr or continue their journey.
What makes the area so special: There is a war in Revendreth and a dispute among the rulers in which you will be drawn. Here awaits the first raid of Shadowlands: Castle Nathria, where the current ruler Count Denathrius awaits as the final boss.
During your travels, you will learn more and more about this war and the Venthyr, the covenant that takes care of Revendreth. The Venthyr are something like “anima vampires” that you can even join.
Additionally, most of the dead spend a long time in Revendreth to atone for their sins. You may meet some familiar and beloved characters from Warcraft here.
New Covenant: The Venthyr
Who are the Venthyr? During your own journey, you have the opportunity to join the new covenant. The Venthyr are one of the four covenants that you can join in Shadowlands. They are a group of nobles who act as “punishers of the unworthy, harvesting the sinful souls”.
What rewards does the covenant offer? If you want to join the new covenant, you will have access to some benefits:
- the covenant ability “Power of the Venthyr”, which allows you to plunge into the shadows and reappear at the target location
- special abilities that depend on your respective class
- cosmetic rewards such as a mount, a pet, special back adornments, and unique armor:
Furthermore, you will be able to like already presented with the Kyrian covenant, engage in a soulbinding. You choose an ally from the covenant and bind yourself to them to gain access to special bonuses that become stronger over time.
New Dungeon: The Hall of Atonement
In addition to Revendreth, Blizzard provided a small glimpse of a new dungeon: The Hall of Atonement.
The halls are intended for leveling, like the other three dungeons of the respective areas, and are already accessible at level 50 on the “normal” difficulty for five players. Later, they can also be visited in “heroic” and “mythic” versions.
Spoiler: Here are the bosses of the Hall of Atonement
Halkias, the stained Goliath, a huge golem who serves the Grand Chamberlain and Denathrius.
Echelon, one of the Stoneborn, a stony gargoyle
Highjudicator Aleez, a kind of high priestess responsible for distributing the souls and anima
The Grand Chamberlain, the right hand of the ruler Denathrius
Please note, that Shadowlands is still in alpha and the models may still change.
You can only visit Revendreth and the Hall of Atonement, as well as later Castle Nathria, towards the end of Shadowlands. Other areas and content, such as class changes and the new leveling system, can be explored much earlier.
