Lost in Data Nirvana Over the Years
With its 5 expansions so far, World of Warcraft has undergone many changes and transformations. It is no wonder that some items that could only be obtained in Classic have since met their demise and are no longer available in the game. Many “newbies” also have no idea where these items actually come from or what purpose they once served. We have compiled a handful of tidbits (with some input from Kotaku) that are rarely found in WoW.
Some of them can even be sold for a lot of money. Maybe you’re rich and don’t even know it?
Haunted Memento
Those who participated in the starter event for Wrath of the Lich King will remember the Haunted Mementos. They were thrown around during the Scourge invasion, and every player probably had several of them. “Back then,” you could even throw these items to your fellow players and thus transfer them to their inventory. Many players only noticed the effect late: If you had the memento with you, a small, transparent wraith would follow you, lurking at your heels.
Since then, the memento has been changed multiple times: you can no longer throw it to other players, and the wraith appears only rarely, often lasting just a few seconds. Rumor has it that the item caused several server crashes at the launch of Warlords of Draenor – is there some truth to that?
Today, it is rarely seen, especially when some returners sell it or long-time owners want to part with it. Essentially useless, but worth several thousand gold pieces to many players.
