PvP in Azeroth will henceforth operate under new rules. Because World of Warcraft is abolishing its PvP servers.
At BlizzCon 2017, there were numerous new revelations about World of Warcraft and Blizzard’s other games. The next expansion is called “Battle for Azeroth” and brings a host of new features. However, one change is likely to shock many players: Blizzard is abolishing the PvP servers!
With the next expansion “Battle for Azeroth”, there will only be one type of server. Has PvP in the open world died? No!
Blizzard is implementing a new system in World of Warcraft that is designed to benefit all fans of PvP battles in the open world.
WoW receives an optional “PvP phase”
Players who wish can actively mark themselves for PvP. However, the change can only be made within the main cities of their own faction. “In the wild”, you cannot just switch the PvP status. Once activated, you will only see players in the world who have also activated PvP. Effectively, World of Warcraft thus has several phases – separated by PvP players and those who prefer to play without faction skirmishes.
The reasoning behind this change is easily explained. World of Warcraft has been using the same rules for open PvP since 2005, without ever making significant changes. However, the entire game surrounding it has evolved, making a change necessary.
However, those who choose to activate PvP will not only be rewarded with the thrill of spontaneous death by the opposing faction, but will also experience additional bonuses. Currently, “compensations” are planned, such as additional experience points or reputation gain upon completing quests. The exact scope and amount of these bonuses is still undecided; this is currently just a basic idea.
