The German guild Sauercrowd faced perhaps the most important decision of any player in WoW: Horde or Alliance? In the end, the choice was quite clear and doesn’t please guild co-leader HandOfBlood at all.
What is this event about?
- Sauercrowd was founded by Twitch streamer Metashi12. The idea is a WoW hardcore guild like OnlyFangs with over 200 German streamers, including HandOfBlood and Papaplatte.
- The project is supposed to be really big with a lot of external support: there is an addon specifically for the guild and Twitch will set up a category for the streamers, as was mentioned in the latest stream.
- However, even before the start of the event, there were arguments about the role choice of the members – now an even bigger dispute has erupted over the choice of faction.
This is how the decision went: Horde vs. Alliance is a question that has divided the World of Warcraft community at least since 2005, and there will likely never be a clear answer. Although the factions are becoming closer and closer, both Horde and Alliance have strong identities that players like to belong to.
Accordingly, it was difficult for a mixed group like Sauercrowd to come to an agreement. Members were to prepare and present pleas to convince others of “their” faction. This was all broadcast live on Twitch on December 12 at 6:00 PM, featuring the appearance of a singer well-known to any German WoW veteran.
In the end, there was finally a vote. Of the over 200 members, 131 participated and delivered a clear result: with 76 to 55 votes, the Alliance won, much to the dismay of Horde supporter HandOfBlood, who expressed his frustration several times during the pleas, sometimes banging on the table.
Especially bitter for him: his partner Tamina publicly spoke in her speech for the Alliance (on HandOfBlood’s stream from hour 04:30:35). Tamina emphasizes that she wants to relive the experience of the famous “South Park” episode and not just “see a tree every 500 meters.” HandOfBlood refrained from commenting after that.
“I am an absolute Horde fan – And that’s exactly why I will vote for the Alliance”
Anyone interested in the event or already a WoW fan and looking for something to smile about should definitely watch all the pleas (in the stream from hour 03:53:43). Most speakers voiced support for the Alliance with arguments like:
- the nicer areas
- more aesthetic races
- real cities and not a capital that looks “like Frankfurt Central Station”
There were also more creative speeches, such as that all important inventions (fire, electricity, lasagna) come from Humans – not Orcs. And streamer Mowky, who desperately wants to play a Night Elf, even bribed by saying she would come to the next gamescom in cosplay if the guild joins the Alliance.
A very convincing argument ultimately came from Sieglinde, one of the biggest German WoW streamers on Twitch:
Hello, I am sieglinde and I am an absolute Horde fan. And that’s exactly why I will vote for the Alliance. Everyone knows that the most development time has gone into the Alliance areas and quests, which is why quest areas and lore are better designed. […] The Alliance is simply better for a HC event. We, inexperienced (sic!) WoW veterans must not be selfish and must set aside our own wishes.
Rather, it is our responsibility to provide the best experience and present WoW in its best light. The guild leadership has always emphasized: newcomers must be helped. And the best help at the start is not to make a wrong decision in the faction choice. That the Alliance is better for beginners is also said by Metashi – right?
Counterarguments from the Horde meanwhile were that the Alliance stinks, is annoying, is dumb and that the Horde is simply cooler and tougher. If you already play hardcore, you also want the right challenge and not the “easy mode.” Moreover, the goal is not to shower, which fits the Horde.
After the decision was finally made, the members immediately set to work selecting their races via a quiz – which all participants then have to commit to and stick with. For the three leaders, the results are:
- Papaplatte plays a Dwarf
- HandOfBlood will play a Human
- and Metashi also starts as Human in the project
Among the over 200 guests are a host of well-known streamers like Goldgoblin, Chefstrobel, Maurice Weber, Hauke Gerdes, and Honeypuu. Many of the participants have never played WoW. An invitation was, however, declined: While the German Twitch is still playing Minecraft, streamers are planning the next big event – but MontanaBlack was not invited
