The “most legendary exploiter” in World of Warcraft is back. This time, it’s the Horde that faces doom – with an absurd one-hit combo.
In World of Warcraft, there are some players who have achieved legendary status in the community. One of them is Rextroy, who repeatedly publishes videos with absurd achievements, mostly allowing for the “one-hitting” of player characters or bosses. After a long break, Rextroy is back – and he obliterates Horde characters with over 100 million damage points with just a few clicks.
What did Rextroy do? In his latest video, Rextroy shows how he jumps into a group of well-equipped Horde characters with a rather poorly geared mage and shortly thereafter kills them with absurdly high damage numbers. Values of over 100,000,000 damage points light up. That is so much damage that it is enough to send most characters to the digital afterlife 20 times over. No character can withstand such a large amount of damage unless they have immunities.
How does it work? As is often the case with Rextroy, the core of this functionality lies in a faulty scaling. This time, it’s a talent of the mage called “Frostfire Empowerment.” This talent ensures that the spell Frostfire Bolt occasionally becomes an instant-cast spell, dealing 60% more damage and inflicting 80% of its damage to all nearby enemies.
Low-level enemies in World of Warcraft, however, suffer drastically increased damage. So, if the mage fires his Frostfire Bolt at a low-level target and deals several million damage points, all nearby enemies also take 80% of that value as damage – even though they are not low-level.
Previously, Rextroy used frogs for this type of trick, which were ultimately nerfed because of him. Now he has found a new item for this purpose, namely the “Unconscious Pit Rat,” which can be obtained in the Barrens. He can summon it at will, and it provides a low-level target. All nearby enemies can then prepare for a quick, frostfire demise.
Is this allowed? Rextroy’s videos mostly showcase exploits, which are not allowed to be used excessively and can lead to account penalties. Before Rextroy publishes his videos, he always informs the WoW developers about the newly discovered bugs so they can be fixed before the exploit becomes widely known. Typically, the bugs are already fixed by the time the video goes online.
