World of Warcraft says goodbye to the seasonal affix – and this has major implications for M+. We have all the details.
In recent weeks, there has been much criticism of “Mythic+” – one of the central endgame systems of World of Warcraft. Many players simply no longer want to deal with all the different effects they have to constantly evade. The seasonal affix “Thunderous” exacerbates the problem – especially when you already have to pay attention to boss abilities or other affixes.
Blizzard seems to have heard the criticism. The solution is: In Patch 10.1, that is, Season 2 of Dragonflight, there will be no seasonal affix.
Why is Blizzard doing this? The reason lies in the introduction of the seasonal affixes, back in Battle for Azeroth. At that time, the idea was to keep the dungeons fresh with a seasonal affix each season. After all, dungeons like “Freehold” had to be run not just for one season, but for the entire duration of the expansion.
With Dragonflight, this is different. Since each season brings a whole new pool of dungeons, there is no longer any reason to keep the dungeons “fresh” each season – because they were not present in the previous season anyway.
Instead of the “Level 10” affix, there will be no other. The scaling of the dungeons will continue to increase, but starting from Level 7, you will experience all affixes of the corresponding week.
Or in other words: In Season 2, you will always deal with “Tyrannical” and “Fortified” as well as one affix each at Levels 4 and 7. After that, only the scaling will change.
What is there instead? Instead of a seasonal affix, Blizzard wants to revise the affixes in the “Level 7” pool and add new ones. Although there are no details yet on what this revision will look like, there are already some hints. For example, Game Director Ion Hazzikostas said in an interview with MeinMMO that it does not feel good when certain specializations are consistently disadvantaged. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that the affixes should affect all party members more evenly – or be equally avoidable.
This is how the community reacts: Although parts of the community are not completely satisfied with this announcement, as they had wished for a more comprehensive overhaul or even the abolition of the purely negative affixes, the mood is rather positive. It is seen as a good sign that Blizzard is responding so quickly to the wishes and is at least willing to try changes and see how “Mythic+” can be modernized further.
