World of Warcraft will take off with Dragonflight and bring many updates. A total of 6 patches are coming in 2023 – and there’s a lot in store.
World of Warcraft Dragonflight is not even a month old, but the patch 10.0.5 is already on the PTR – and that’s just the beginning.
The developers of WoW have released a roadmap and explained what is supposed to happen in 2023. The target they have set is impressive: A total of 6 content patches will be available next year. Four of them are slightly smaller, and 2 are “big chunks” – we will reveal all the details.
Patch 10.0.5
Release Date: planned for early 2023
Patch 10.0.5 is the first small patch for Dragonflight and brings a series of improvements and desired features like adjustments to the transmog system. The patch is already playable on the PTR.
- Trading Post: A new system that offers many new cosmetic rewards that can be earned over weeks and months.
- Morning of the Primalists: New features in the “alternative timeline” where the Primalists have won.
- White and Gray Transmogs: Items of lower quality will be unlocked for the transmog system. This allows for new, simple looks.
Patch 10.0.7
Release Date: Spring 2023
The update 10.0.7 makes the Forbidden Island accessible. Currently, entering the island results in immediate death and no creatures are present there. So it will be a new, small area.
- Return to the Forbidden Island: The starting island of the Dracthyr will also be accessible on the Dragon Islands and brings new quests.
- Heritage Armor for Humans and Orcs: The two “most original” of all races finally receive their heritage armors through unique questlines.
- Holiday Updates: The various annual holidays will be revised, receiving new content and fresh rewards.
Patch 10.1
Release Date: Spring 2023
This patch is the first “really big” update and comes with the “usual” features. So a new raid, a new instance, and everything else that comes with a major content update.

Patch 10.1.5
Release Date: Summer 2023
In summer, dungeon fans should rejoice, as a new mega-dungeon will be added to the game and present exciting challenges for 5-player groups. The core features of the update are:

Patch 10.1.7
Release Date: Autumn 2023
10.1.7 is meant to primarily bring new story content and “refresh” many holiday events. How exactly this will look remains to be seen.

Blizzard aims to release the second major content patch for Dragonflight by the end of 2023. There will also be a new zone, a new raid, and the next PvP season.

Even though Blizzard has only made very rough estimates for the later patches, it is already clear that the developers have planned the upcoming year quite precisely.
More information about the individual content patches will be published in the coming months. Blizzard emphasizes that they will allow enough time and space to also respond to player feedback, in order to add things that the community wants.
The future for Dragonflight looks quite rosy. Blizzard sets high standards for itself and raises the bar high. It remains to be seen whether the developers can maintain this or whether they will have to retract their own promises over the course of the next year.
