In World of Warcraft: Shadowlands you will learn to fly with the upcoming patch 9.1. However, the unlocking does not happen immediately, and furthermore, you will not be able to fly in every region.
Shadowlands has been live for almost 6 months, and still, an important feature is missing: flying. Now new details have come to light because data miners have found a new item on the PTR server.
What we know about flying: With the upcoming patch 9.1, flying will be unlocked. To do this, you must meet the following requirements:
- You must play the new covenant campaign. Through this, you can earn the item “Memories of Sunless Skies”
- You will receive this item as a reward for the chapter that follows the unlocking of your hub in the new area Korthia (chapter 3 of the new quests)
- You will not have to play the entire campaign
- There will be no reputation grind for flying
That you do not actually have to play the entire campaign was confirmed by Blizzard developer Jeremy Feasel on Twitter. The website WoWHead had speculated this first:
Where can you fly? Although flying will be unlocked with patch 9.1, you will not be able to use it everywhere. The new item only mentions the 4 covenant areas where flying will be possible:
- Bastion
- Ardenweald
- Revendreth
- Maldraxxus
The areas Oribos, the Maw, and the new area Korthia are not mentioned. You will still have to travel on foot there.
Although the PTR now includes patch 9.1, the contents related to flying have not yet been implemented. This is supposed to be implemented in the coming week.
Patch 9.1 is already being mocked
What is the problem with the new update? Patch 9.1 introduces some good new features. For example,
- The story continues
- A new covenant campaign is started
- A new area, Korthia, is unlocked
- A new mega-dungeon and raid are released
However, the patch has been awaited for quite a long time, and Cortyn found the absence of the patch concerning as early as March. Still no specific release timeframe has been given.
