The next steps in the story of World of Warcraft Dragonflight are set. An ancient story will finally be revealed.
Although Patch 10.1 Glut von Neltharion is not yet live, the developers are already talking a bit about the next story highlights that will follow in the upcoming updates. In the first episode of “WoWcast”, the developers discussed the future of the story of Dragonflight – and what themes will still be covered.
Spoiler warning: Since this is about the future of Dragonflight and the ongoing story, there are logically spoilers. You have been warned.
What happens after Patch 10.1? Maria Hamilton, the “Lead Game Designer Worlds”, spoke about the future of the story. According to her, the focus will be on the Bronze Dragonflight after the events in the Zaralek caverns. After all, its leader, Nozdormu, is still facing the fate of one day becoming the dark “Murozond”, who will bring about the “Eternal Dragonflight”. This story will, according to Hamilton, “come to a resolution” – and the evil version of Chromie, called “Morchie”, will play a larger role.
Galakrond returns: Incidentally, it was mentioned that Galakrond will return. He is one of the original dragons of Azeroth, who was once a huge threat and devoured almost all life on the world. Only with the help of the Titans were the future aspects able to kill Galakrond. His skeleton can still be seen today in Northrend.
Whether Galakrond will actually be revived in the present time or if it is “just” a time travel where that must be prevented remains to be seen.
How does this fit together? Fans have already begun to connect these details, and the revival of Galakrond fits well with what is happening in Patch 10.1. In the Zaralek caverns, the primal incarnation of fire, Fyrakk, absorbs the shadow flame. These were developed by Neltharion many millennia ago.
Longtime fans know that the shadow flame was already used in the Blackwing Lair and the Blackwing Descent (Vanilla and Cataclysm) and was capable of reviving dead dragons.
It is therefore possible that the shadow flame causes the reanimation of Galakrond.
When will we learn more about it? Probably within a few days. Because when Patch 10.1 goes live on May 3rd, the PTR for Patch 10.1.5 will likely start shortly after – and thus it will be clearly established where the further journey in Dragonflight is headed, what happens with the bronze dragonflight, and whether the “evil Morchie” is as cute as Chromie.
