The Blizzard developers have finally revealed in detail when players can obtain the so-called “Puzzling Cartel Chips” to purchase raid gear in WoW: The War Within. The community has expressed visible disappointment with the announcement.
What did Blizzard announce? Starting from the ID of May 13/14, 2025, you can accept a new weekly quest, for which you need to defeat 4 bosses in the current raid. Upon the first completion of this task, you will receive 3 “Puzzling Cartel Chips”.
In the following weeks, you can earn 1 additional chip each week, with each character being able to collect a total of 9 “Puzzling Cartel Chips”. You will then take these chips to Advisor Wrexxlein, who is located near the Great Treasury in Dornogal, to exchange 3 of the chips for gear from the raid of Lorenhall’s Liberation.

What is the catch? One detail that Blizzard did not mention during the initial announcement of the “new dinars” (which were introduced for the first time in Shadowlands and were also used in the Dragonflight expansion) is:
Players can buy mythic and heroic gear but must have defeated the corresponding boss at least once on any difficulty to be able to buy heroic gear or defeated it on mythic difficulty to buy mythic gear.

So anyone who hoped to gain access to mythic gear through the new dinars without being able to play the mythic difficulty of the raid will be disappointed.
How is the community reacting? There are several discussions on Reddit about Blizzard’s announcement. The majority of players sharply criticize the new restriction of the system.
- Dahkeus3 expresses disappointment on Reddit: “Okay, but if my problem is that the item is useless to me because I get Mythic item level gear from Mythics but don’t do Mythic raids, then that just means I get more items that are useless to me. It just feels worse.”
- rittler281 emphasizes in his post on Reddit that many might share this sentiment: “In my opinion, for the majority of players, it is basically just a 3-week grind for a transmog token. I guess it’s better than waiting 2+ years for the raids of this expansion to become soloable?”
- Top_Recover9764 sees a group benefiting from this on Reddit: “Yes, the only ones who are pleased with how this is implemented are people who sell boosts.”
Such boost services take gold or money to carry players through certain WoW content, granting them access to loot, titles, and achievements that would otherwise likely be unattainable. While such services violate the game’s terms of service, Blizzard has yet to find a sustainable means to prevent these.
