The older, the more popular
World of Warcraft has had an in-game shop for quite some time, where you can purchase not only various character services like server transfer or faction change, but also cosmetic items. These items include various mounts such as the Winged Guardian or the Heart of the Aspects.
But how well do these animals actually sell? Are they virtual shelf-warmers, or does every player basically have these mounts? This is what the folks at mmo-champion wondered and analyzed a lot of data.
At the top of the popularity list are the three mounts Heavenly Horse, Heart of the Aspects, and the Winged Guardian. Almost 16% of all players have purchased these mounts. At the bottom of the sales list are the Swift Windsteed and the Mystical Rune Saber, with only about 7% of players opting to buy them.
Generally, these figures are not surprising – the longer a mount has been available, the more players have treated themselves to it. Notably, the Swift Windsteed seems to be rather unpopular.
The data was drawn from 2.2 million accounts that have logged into the game since November 1, 2015.
