World of Warcraft on consoles would be a dream for many players. But can it be more than just a dream? Blizzard has an answer.
For over a decade, World of Warcraft has held strong on the list of the largest MMORPGs for PC. However, while games like TERA are slowly taking the crucial step to consoles, WoW remains hesitant. Many fans wish to visit Azeroth comfortably from the couch with a controller in hand.
The rumor has been circulating for years that Blizzard is secretly waiting for a release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One – now there is certainty. This may not please the fans.

Console WoW would require too many changes
In an interview with the site Dualshockers, Daniel Stahl, the producer of World of Warcraft, discussed this idea. In the near future, there will likely be no World of Warcraft for consoles, as too many changes would need to be made.
WoW is “made for PC” and the number of necessary adjustments would be enormous. The developers want to continue developing World of Warcraft as it currently is.
“Our focus has really been on PC from the beginning. Too many changes would be necessary for the gameplay to function on consoles. Currently, there are no plans in this regard.”
A fan once “brought WoW to PS4” – albeit quite differently than expected.
With dozens of spells and abilities, it would be difficult to translate this perfectly to a controller’s controls, even if players have tried in the past. A fan even managed to play WoW with a controller and it didn’t look so bad thanks to the action camera and some interface addons.
This should put the rumor that World of Warcraft will be released on PS4 and Xbox One to rest once and for all.
