In World of Warcraft, there are many reasons for a disconnect. A bug, an account suspension, or a short internet outage. This can be extremely annoying, and even the professional players are not spared from it. Especially in the “Race to World First”, the race in the latest raid – Amirdrassil, Hope of Dreams – it can be particularly frustrating when during a critical fight, the game suddenly decides that you have to experience a disconnect.
However, it can sometimes have the most trivial of reasons, as a tank from the professional guild Method recently found out.
What happened? The professional guild Method is currently in 3rd place in the race for the “World First Clear” of the current raid Amirdrassil. Especially the 8th and thus second to last boss Tindral poses problems for many guilds.
During a fight, the tank Nate (also “Immonate”) suddenly realizes that his game has disconnected from the server. A bit surprised, he informs his teammates:
“The seed [a boss ability] has exploded and my game has crashed.”
But as soon as Immonate expressed this, the character selection already reveals to him what the true reason for the disconnect was. Because behind his characters, it says “Inactive” and the game suggests that he should subscribe.
Clearly a bit embarrassed, he informs his guild about it and receives laughter from several teammates.
Do you not get a warning? Yes, you do. Before the playtime expires, you are periodically reminded in the game – a small message appears in the chat window. However, this can completely get lost in the heat of the strenuous fights of a raid. Professionals usually have to keep an eye on dozens of effects and abilities and are very little interested in what might be written in the chat.
At least: Method has now succeeded in defeating the 8th boss of the raid, Tindral Swiftsage. They are now tied as the third guild with Team Liquid and Echo, who have also reached the last boss and are now competing for the World First Kill of Fyrakk.
