On November 16, you can play the new class in World of Warcraft before the release of Dragonflight. The Evokers of the Dracthyr are the first class that is firmly tied to a race. To get you in the mood, here are some details about the new class and the new race.
What kind of class is that? Evokers are ranged fighters with chain armor who can heal and deal damage. They harness the power of the dragonflights and are linked to the Dracthyr race. This means: every Dracthyr is an Evoker, every Evoker is a Dracthyr.
Evokers are one of the major features of the upcoming expansion Dragonflight and the first class in 6 years. The last class introduced was the Demon Hunters in Legion in 2016.
However, before the release of Dragonflight, you can already create and level Dracthyr starting November 16, so that you are ready at launch. In a new blog post, Blizzard provides an overview of the class once again.
You can find all important information about the Evokers of the Dracthyr in our special here. We have some gameplay footage for you from the alpha of Dragonflight:
More customization “than grains of sand in the universe”
What makes Evokers so special? The great strength of the Evokers is their mobility, as the developers explained to us in the interview. With various abilities, you fly around, gather allies, or even cast while moving. However, you are limited to 30 meters.
Evokers are the only class with the “empowered spells” mechanic. These change their effect or become stronger the longer you channel them. Through the new talent system of Dragonflight, you can customize your spells and choose abilities from the different dragonflights:
- Red: Damage spells that mainly deal damage over time (“DoTs”) and area damage (“AoE”)
- Blue: Damage spells that are usually strongest against 1-3 targets (“Cleave”)
- Bronze: Healing spells that primarily prevent damage
- Green: Direct healing spells and healing over time (“HoTs”)
- Black: Abilities with mixed or defensive properties
A detailed guide to the Evoker can be found in the new GameStar special issue for WoW: Dragonflight, which MeinMMO also contributed to. The guide was created in collaboration with us.
Like Demon Hunters, you can slow and even control your fall. Additionally, Dracthyr can use their wings to actually fly, similar to dragon riding in Dragonflight.
As the only race, you can also customize Dracthyr with dozens of options. This includes everything from the color of their scales and the shape of their horns to ornaments and armor, as Dracthyr do not display equipment in their dragon form.
MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus liked the Evokers so much that he will be playing a caster in Dragonflight for the first time in 12 years instead of a melee character:
When can I play Evoker? As soon as Phase 2 of Patch 10.0, the pre-patch for Dragonflight, is released, Dracthyr will be playable. This is expected to happen on November 16. Elemental invasions will also go live at that time, the pre-event for the expansion.
To create a Dracthyr, you must have pre-ordered and activated Dragonflight. Otherwise, you will not have access to the new race and the new class.
If you want to catch up with a character for Dragonflight, you should do that right now. The bonuses are currently absurdly strong:
