Larion and Muigim
The last pair takes us to Un’goro Crater in Kalimdor. The entire crater is historically a “testing ground” of the Titans – at least in Warcraft lore. In fact, a large part of this zone is an homage to Nintendo. Here, you fight against gorillas, which leave barrels behind upon their demise – clear allusions to Mario and Donkey Kong.
It gets even more obvious with the two NPC brothers “Larion” and “Muigim,” who once fought against plant creatures in red and green clothing – at least back then. Today, they stand on their observation platforms, gazing into the depths of the crater. Both characters are strongly reminiscent of the plumber brothers Mario and Luigi. Even their clothing (red/blue and green) is modeled after the two.
By the way: There used to be a quest series that alluded to “The Legend of Zelda.” In Classic, you had to help a green gnome named “Linken” find his sword and boomerang. However, this has completely disappeared with the redesign during Cataclysm.
