World of Warcraft offers a lot of secrets that players must uncover. One of these secrets has now been revealed by chance and subsequently confirmed by ambitious seekers: the secret mount Slime Snake.
What kind of mount is this? The Slime Snake is a massive worm with teeth. Visually, the mount resembles “N’zoth’s black serpent“, only with a green-yellow, slightly paler color.
Currently, it serves as a ground mount in Shadowlands. However, it is likely that you will be able to fly with it in the future. In Patch 9.1, there is a new item that enables flying in Shadowlands.
The Slime Snake has been present since the release of the expansion but has been one of the four mounts that have been in the game but no one has found. Until now, as the mystery of the Slime Snake has been solved.

What do I need to do? There are essentially only three steps you need to follow to get the snake:
- Visit the dungeon Plaguefall on Heroic or Mythic difficulty solo
- Defeat the last two bosses – you can skip the trash and the first bosses
- Pet the Slime Snake
After defeating Baroness Stradama, you will find a “Strange Slime Snake” in the boss room of Domina Venomblade in the Plagueborne Pools. Approach the snake and pet it.
It is important that there can only be one player in the dungeon at all times. Apparently, it is possible for a player to defeat all trash and Domina Venomblade, then leave the dungeon to allow a second player to get the kill on the final boss and thus the snake.
According to experts from the Secret Finding Discord, this is currently the only reliable way to assist your friends. Otherwise, it all works only reliably if you are solo (via Discord).
Why it is difficult: At the moment, most classes have trouble completing Plaguefall solo. Apparently, only tank classes and Beast Mastery hunters can do it without major issues.
Other classes, especially those with few survival options such as mages, may have greater difficulties. However, since the mount is account-bound, you can also try it with a corresponding twink.
Is there no other way? At the moment, the aforementioned method is the only one that works reliably. Any attempt to acquire the snake with a group has failed.
However, it is conceivable that there is a specific trigger that is simply easier or is always triggered when playing solo. In other words: perhaps teammates unintentionally sabotage the attempt to tame the snake.
Those who really want the snake are probably well-advised to level up a tank – such as a Blood Death Knight. That might still take less time than finding another way. And truly determined players are not deterred by some grind:
