An exploit has led to major issues with the World Quests of World of Warcraft. Blizzard is now promising penalties for the respective players.
In recent days, the first players have gained a revered reputation with many factions in World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth. This seemed impossible under the current circumstances without using a bug or exploit – and that was indeed the case. Those who exploited the bug can now expect penalties.
What was the exploit? As it was back in Legion, it was possible to complete certain world quests infinitely by exploiting a bug. This allowed players to receive reputation rewards from the respective quest multiple times and reach revered status with many factions. The exploit has since been fixed with a hotfix.
More rewards from the bug: At the same time, players could also gain additional rewards from the bug. For instance, they could receive the gold rewards of quests multiple times or earn quite good gear. If a quest granted a belt with item level 320+, they could complete the quest as many times as needed until the belt was titanforged to the maximum level.
Fans demand perma-ban: What penalties the players will face is still unknown. Rumors suggest that there is “only” a three-day account suspension. However, many fans demand that there be longer or even permanent penalties. After all, multiple game mechanics were deliberately circumvented, and it would be obvious that this was an unintended exploit.
What do you think about this issue? Should Blizzard take a strong stand and impose harsh penalties? Or is it Blizzard’s fault that such an exploit was possible at all?
How to gear up legally and fairly has been covered in this guide.
