In World of Warcraft new Evokers are being kicked from their groups. The reason: Other players don’t understand what they are actually doing.
With Patch 10.1.5 Rifts in Time, World of Warcraft has tried something completely new. The Evoker class is the first in the history of the MMORPG to receive a completely new specialization during an ongoing expansion: Enhancement.
Enhancement Evokers ensure that, as the name suggests, their teammates deliver more performance. Better damage, more healing, and sturdier tanks.
However, not all other players seem to understand this: They kick the Enhancement Evokers from the dungeon groups.
What has happened? In the WoW subreddit, “NORATHEDESTROYER” posted a compilation of screenshots showing what Enhancement Evokers are currently experiencing. The images show numerous conversations with groups where Enhancement Evokers are excluded or targeted because their DPS is lower than that of the tank or healer.
Many apparently believe that Enhancement Evokers do not master their class when they deal so little damage.
Why are Evokers being kicked? The fact that Enhancement Evokers are being removed from dungeon groups has a pretty obvious reason: In various damage meters, addons like Recount or Details cannot capture the actual damage of the Evoker, or more accurately: They can only capture the damage the Evoker deals but not the impact of their massive buffs for other players. These are directly attributed to the other characters. Only external sites, such as warcraftlogs, have so far been able to accurately break down the damage.
However, this is not due to the addons, but because it has not yet been possible for addon developers to accurately calculate the exact impact of Enhancement and correctly attribute it to the Evoker. WoW simply does not allow this at present.
To the uninformed, it then appears as if the Evoker is doing their job extremely poorly and simply dealing no damage.
The “problem” is further exacerbated by the fact that the other characters in the group massively benefit from the Enhancement Evoker, resulting in significantly more performance being attributed to their damage. This further amplifies the perceived gap between the Evoker and the other DPS characters.
Enhancement Evokers are extremely strong: The reality, however, is that Enhancement Evokers are currently one of the best classes for 5-person content, such as dungeons. Not only do they massively enhance the damage of the other two DPS characters, but they also bring a lot of survivability, which is why many pros now consider such an Evoker essential to efficiently master particularly tough dungeons.
If you ever think: “Hmm, the Enhancement Evoker isn’t doing anything,” then take a look at the damage of the rest of the group. If your own performance suddenly seems unexpectedly high, you probably haven’t become skill gods overnight – but you have a competent Evoker with you that you should not kick.
Have you as an Enhancement Evoker also experienced such things?
Some are not just saying goodbye to Evokers, but also to their water elementals.
