Even with a disability and a lot of willpower, one can achieve great things in World of Warcraft. A player shares how he lost a finger – and still rocks in “Mythic+”.
In the WoW Subreddit, the player Sieneis proudly shared a picture of his left hand and the World of Warcraft screen. Two things can be seen: He achieved a score of over 2,000 points in “Mythic+” – and he only has 4 fingers on his left hand. He lost his ring finger due to a “stupidity,” but that didn’t stop him from reaching his goals. Thus, he also titled the post:
“A few months ago, I had an accident and my ring finger was torn off. Today, I have achieved KSM [Keystone Master] with my disability. I am proud of myself and just wanted to share this.”
How did the accident happen? In the Reddit post, Sieneis addresses many questions from the community and also explains how he lost his ring finger. He explains:
My accident happened when I was dumb enough to climb over a fence. The ring got caught as I came down and you can probably guess the rest. The physical pain was terrible, but what hurt me the most was seeing my finger separated from my hand. (…)
The doctors told me they could try to reattach my finger, but there was only a very small chance that it would work again. They advised against it and I agreed. No regrets.
Even months later, it is still unusual for Sieneis to play with one finger less. He often tries to use the missing finger, which leads to minor problems while playing:
I still sometimes try to use my lost finger to press keys and that leads to some problems. It messes up my rotation, and I get confused for a while, essentially only doing automatic attacks and trying to get my mind back in order. This usually happens when it gets particularly intense. My priority then is not to die instead of trying to do even more damage.
What kind of achievement is this? For the achievement “Keystone Master”, one must successfully tackle “Mythic+” dungeons in World of Warcraft. To achieve a score of 2,000 points – which corresponds to the achievement – all current dungeons must be completed on average at level 15 within the time limit. However, one can vary a bit and complete one dungeon at level 16 while only mastering another at 14.
Anyone doubting the story and thinking that the picture has been manipulated will find further images shortly after the accident in the thread – but those are not for everyone and show the hand shortly after the wound was stitched up.
The community celebrates the achievement, making many jokes: In the WoW community, the story is very well received. In the subreddit, the story is rewarded with many upvotes – at the time of the article’s publication (11:30 AM), there are 10,900 upvotes in less than 24 hours. Many also respond humorously to the picture:
- “You may have one less ring slot, but still congrats!”
- “The perfect hand for a Fury Warrior.”
- “Many DPS characters I play with seem to also have your condition and have mapped their interrupt skill to the key your ring finger would press.”
In the end, it is a tragic yet beautiful story from gaming, where people can achieve their goals despite disabilities.
