The longest session of World of Warcraft of all time – this record has now been set by a Hungarian player. Could you break it?
“Just a quick round of World of Warcraft,” that can easily spiral out of control. What starts as half an hour of mining ores suddenly turns into a long evening filled with raids, dungeons, and quests. But to set the world record, it takes a bit more.
The Hungarian Barnabás Vujity-Zsolnay has now managed to set the world record in the category “Longest video game marathon playing an MMORPG,” and the time is definitely impressive. He played continuously for almost 2 1/2 days – leaving the old record far behind.
How long did he play? In total, Barnabás clocked in a playtime of 59 hours and 20 minutes – he played for two days and nights straight and then added another half day. With this, he has left the old record far behind – as it was “only” 35 hours and 49 minutes. Barnabás is now the new world record holder (via guinnessworldrecords.com).
This is what the player says about the record: Interestingly, he did not achieve the world record without difficulty. After about 30 hours, he became genuinely bored after having filled the time before with dungeons and arena battles. It became truly strenuous after 45 hours, as he describes, when the first hallucinations set in due to sleep deprivation:
I noticed how the first hallucinations formed. It was funny, but also a bit exhausting to keep concentrating on the stream.
In the end, he succeeded in the attempt entirely without relying on caffeine – he only drank water and managed to consume a proud amount of nearly 15 liters.
Barnabás is a long-time WoW fan. He has been playing for over 10 years and started as a teenager. In the past, he has played up to 10 hours a day, often even 16 hours on weekends. Regarding this, he says:
I do not regret having spent that much time on the game, but I do not recommend it to anyone either. I love the game and will reclaim the record if it ever gets broken. It belongs to me for life – I want everyone to know that.
The entire world record attempt was broadcast live on the website esport1.hu, and the proceeds from the stream will be donated to charitable causes.
Were there also breaks? Yes, there were. For every full hour that Barnabás spent in World of Warcraft, he earned 5 minutes of break – for eating, going to the bathroom, or resting for a moment. These are the usual conditions for such “marathon records,” it says on the Guinness website.
Nevertheless, a session of World of Warcraft lasting 59 hours is quite remarkable.
