However, acquiring particularly rare mounts requires a lot of patience and perseverance. One player tried for 12 years without success, to obtain a certain mount in WoW – but he finally succeeded, though in WotLK Classic.
Which mount is it? The “Reins of the Headless Horseman” (via wowhead) is a particularly rare mount that you can obtain in both modern WoW and WoW Classic. However, there is a major catch.
The mount is only available for a few days each year during the Hallow’s End event – the in-game Halloween event. Additionally, the mount has an extremely low drop chance of only 0.25-0.3 percent.
There are now websites that help with mount farming, but a drop still requires a lot of luck.

Why is it the “wrong” game? A player has now had bad luck with luck, as after 12 years of farming, he finally got his desired mount (via reddit). Unfortunately, it was in WoW Classic. The collection there does not transfer to “Retail” WoW.
On reddit, the community congratulates the lucky mount owner, with many praising his perseverance. Other players report that they have themselves tried over 2,000 times to get the mount.

How do you get the mount in WotLK Classic? If you want to defeat the Headless Horseman in WotLK, you must go to the graveyard of the Scarlet Monastery in Tirisfal, which is haunted by ghosts. During Hallow’s End, you will find a jack-o’-lantern there. This holds a quest for you that allows you to summon the Headless Horseman. The boss himself is not particularly difficult and can be easily defeated by groups with little gear.
However, you should note that you can only summon this boss once per character per day. This means that you have a maximum of 5 chances for the rare drop per character. Make sure that none of your group members have already completed the quest.
How do you get the mount in modern WoW? To defeat the Headless Horseman in modern WoW, you must first sign up for the event in the group finder. Once a group has been found for you, you will be directly transported to the dungeon. The fight against the Headless Horseman is largely identical to the version in WoW Classic and presents hardly any challenge in modern WoW as well.
Per character, you can participate in this event once a day. However, in modern WoW, you have a significant advantage: Your mounts are bound to your account. Therefore, it doesn’t matter on which of your characters you complete the event. If you complete the event with multiple characters, you also have multiple chances to get the mount.
