In the basement, you can find many things. Sometimes even epic things. Like the cursed rune blade Frostmourne from World of Warcraft.
Legendary weapons can be found in various fantasy stories in the most unexpected places. Sometimes in a secret temple deep in the woods, sometimes at a cursed shrine in the icy snow – and sometimes just at grandma’s in the basement. That’s what happened to a fan of World of Warcraft who suddenly is the owner of Frostgram.
Where does the sword come from? The Reddit user named Future-Document2450 shared a picture, along with the sentence that he “found this in his grandmother’s basement” and now wonders what it might be worth.
The picture shows the sword Frostgram (“Frostmourne”) in impressive size, resting in a pedestal.
At least the community is quite enthusiastic about the finding. Within a few hours, the post in the WoW subreddit collected over 5,000 upvotes. Besides congratulations for the great find, there is also a whole journey of cheesy puns that you can add to your vocabulary.
- “Is there a chance that the forests whispered her name when she was born?” – Quackethy
- “Grandmarthas …” – ohrofl
- “Any moment now a dwarf will run up and tell you that you must not take the sword.” – VolksDK
Where does the sword come from? There have been several replicas of Frostgram in the past in different variations. One comment explains that this version must be the prototype version made for Blizzard, which later served as the template for the mass model. Some Blizzard employees had owned it and some sold it over the years.
In the comments, it is revealed that the grandmother was not really the owner of this sword. Instead, it was an uncle of the Reddit user who had lived with the grandmother in the basement apartment for a very long time due to illness. Now the decorative blade has passed to Future-Document2450. Let’s hope he doesn’t suddenly start clearing out towns …
