In World of Warcraft, there are plenty of ways to kill time. Whether you’re chasing the best gear, the prettiest transmog outfit, or the perfect mount. Some of these rewards are so rare that you can search for weeks or months without ever getting them.
But what is worse than the frustration of not getting the desired mount? Right. Realizing after 3 months that you weren’t even killing the right boss.
What happened? In the WoW subreddit, the player Mr_pattybean shared his little, somewhat embarrassing story. He spent the last 3 months farming the mount “Al’ar’s Ashes”. For this, he went into the raid “The Eye” to kill the boss. Week after week, for 3 months, with a total of 8 characters per ID.
The catch: He only ever killed the first boss, which is Al’ar. However, he does not drop himself as a mount.
What kind of mount is this? We’re talking about “Al’ar’s Ashes”. This is the first phoenix mount that was added to the game during “The Burning Crusade”. Due to the name, some players assumed that Al’ar’s ashes would also drop from the first boss Al’ar – a misconception. In fact, only Kael’thas, the final boss, drops the mount at a very low chance.
