A WoW player has reached a total playtime of 1,000 days on a single character. An absolutely insane achievement – but how much have you?
In MMORPGs like World of Warcraft, it’s easy to invest the occasional hour of your life. After all, there are nearly endless tasks to accomplish – from PvE to PvP to achievements, pet battles, or roleplay. However, one player can certainly sing a song about it. Because he has 1,000 days of pure playtime. And that on a single character.
What happened? User Arganos9217 published a screenshot of a memorable moment on the World of Warcraft subreddit. It shows the moment he reached a playtime of a proud 1,000 days with his character.
I set my alarm every 15 minutes so I wouldn’t miss this special moment from r/wow
By the way, this is the “pure playtime”, meaning the time the character spent actively in World of Warcraft. Certainly, some hours of AFK time have also accumulated. Arganos believes that about 30% of his playtime was due to AFK standing around. However, it’s probably not possible to find out exactly.
The corresponding Paladin was created by Arganos9217 during “The Burning Crusade”, as World of Warcraft had already been running for several years. This means that Arganos has played this character for an average of 4-5 hours every day since then.
This is how the community reacts: Most players congratulate Arganos for maintaining his enjoyment of World of Warcraft for so long. Others, however, come up with interesting statistics and calculations. One user jokingly calculates what one could have done with this playtime if instead, one had gone to work.
The 24,000 hours of playtime would have amounted to 224,400 euros (before taxes) at the German minimum wage of 9.35€ – that’s a really hefty sum of money. But can you really weigh gaming enjoyment against money?
How much playtime do you have in WoW?
If you find this achievement impressive or at least extraordinary, why not take the self-test. Log into your main character in World of Warcraft and type the command “/played” in the chat window. You will then receive an exact indication of how long you have played that one character.
You can then share your result here in the poll:
If you like, you can also comment on how much playtime you have on your account in total – including all characters combined.
Other players have clearly “wasted” life – they were searching for a riddle that doesn’t even exist.
What do you think of this achievement? Impressive that one can have fun with a game for so long? Or frightening that someone “wastes” so much time?
