The latest patch of World of Warcraft is starting. We at MeinMMO will tell you what you should urgently take care of if you don’t want to miss anything.
Patch 9.2 of World of Warcraft launches today and brings some new content. But which content is really “important” if you want to keep up? What should be tackled in a timely manner and where can you take your time? We clarify what you should accomplish as quickly as possible.
1. The campaign of Zereth Mortis
With the launch of the patch, the first 3 chapters of the new campaign become accessible. They lead the heroes to Zereth Mortis and help unveil some initial secrets while enabling access to the most important game systems. The quest for Zereth Mortis should automatically start with “Call of the Primus” right after logging in. It takes you to Oribos and from there quickly to Zereth Mortis – it’s practically impossible to miss this quest line.
The quest line takes about an hour of playtime until the end of chapter 3 – maybe a few minutes more or less, depending on your playstyle.
If you complete the campaign, you will unlock primarily three important features along the way:
- A portal from Oribos to Zereth Mortis.
- Access to the “Cipher of the First,” a new “talent system” that gradually makes gameplay in Zereth Mortis easier.
- Access to the new faction of the Enlightened.

2. Gathering reputation with the “Enlightened”
As usual, the new area also includes a fresh reputation faction. Almost everything you do in Zereth Mortis will grant you reputation with the faction in one way or another. However, most reputation unlocks are of a cosmetic nature.
The only significant hurdle is a respectful reputation, preferably within the first 3 weeks. Because then you can unlock the new legendary power for alt characters or transfer it to another slot than the belt. Reputation is earned from:
- The campaign quest line, which should give a hefty 2100 reputation points in week 1.
- The quest “Patterns Within Patterns” gives 500 reputation points. The quest is available every 3 days.
- World quests in Zereth Mortis give 125 reputation points.
- Rare enemies give 10-15 reputation points.
However, keep in mind: You don’t necessarily have to farm a lot. If you complete the overarching quest with the progress bar (“Patterns Within Patterns”) every 3 days and occasionally do some daily quests or take down a few rare enemies, you will be in good shape.
3. Start the research of the Cipher of the First
Upon completing the campaign, you will gain access to the “Cipher of the First” system. This is a new progression system in Zereth Mortis resembling a talent tree. You have 4 different lines that you can “skill down” to unlock various passive bonuses. This ranges from buffs to additional quests and chances for other rewards.
The ciphers needed for research are essentially found “on the side,” through killing rare enemies, completing quests, or opening treasures.
Basically, there isn’t much that can go wrong with the ciphers. Sooner or later you will have all the research. At the beginning, you should only focus on building “Cachial Understanding” to unlock a new world quest. After that, you can choose freely.

Checklist: What to do on Day 1?
If you want to maximize your progress on Day 1, you need to check off the following steps as soon as possible:
- Follow the quest line until you complete chapter 3 of the campaign.
- Complete research “Cachial Understanding” in the Cipher of the First to unlock a third world quest. This is the second ability from the top in the left “talent tree”. Research takes an hour.
- Accept the quest “Patterns Within Patterns.”
- Complete all 3 world quests.
- Optional: Complete the daily quests and kill rare enemies. However, the reputation yield is low.
Is this really mandatory? This can probably be answered with a clear “It depends.” Even if you fall a bit behind and don’t play every day, it shouldn’t be a big problem. Those who prefer to enjoy the content and experience it at their own pace should prioritize that over the rush. In the worst case, you’ll get your second legendary a few days later. However, no significant long-term disadvantage will arise. So if you feel that rushing diminishes the enjoyment of the game, take your time with Zereth Mortis and the new campaign.
Are you having fun with Patch 9.2? Or is it again too many tasks for you?
