The next patch of World of Warcraft will be a “only” a small 0.5 patch, but the update 9.0.5 is significant. PvE players are happy.
Acquiring loot in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is a controversial topic. Although the big treasure chamber in Oribos combats the issue of loot scarcity, many players are dissatisfied. Especially “Mythic+” dungeons often feel not worthwhile, as the loot at the end is way too weak. The next patch brings a solution and allows a resource to return that players have demanded for years: Valor Points.
Upgrading items with Valor Points: The new system of patch 9.0.5 will allow you to gradually upgrade loot you receive in “Mythic+” dungeons. Thus, even an item that may seem useless at first glance with item level 200 can be interesting and be improved to item level 220. This means the loot will almost compete with rewards in the Mythic Castle Nathria, and in some cases may even be equal or better for certain specializations.
How to get Valor Points? Valor Points are a currency that many players might still recognize. In Shadowlands, you will be able to earn them after the release of patch 9.0.5 at the end of Mythic+ dungeons and from the callings. There will be a weekly cap, so you can only farm a certain amount of Valor Points each week.
How far can you upgrade equipment? This depends on an achievement that each character needs. Depending on how well you do in completing “Mythic+” dungeons, you can upgrade items with Valor Points to different extents. The limits are as follows:
- Without achievement: Those who have no success can upgrade items from Mythic+ dungeons up to item level 200.
- Key Stone Explorer (new achievement): Those who have completed all dungeons at M+5 in time can upgrade items up to item level 207.
- Key Stone Conqueror: If you complete all dungeons at M+10 in time, the upgrade cap rises to item level 213.
- Key Stone Master: Those who complete all dungeons at M+15 in time can upgrade their items up to item level 220.
Positive Mood – and that almost everywhere
It is rare for opinions about a change to evoke so many positive emotions and to have only positive comments dominate. Criticism is virtually nonexistent; PvE players seem to be thoroughly satisfied. In the subreddit, players are currently praising. Here are some excerpts:
This is not coming in patch 9.1. It is coming sooner.
This is already the second time I was pessimistic about a design direction in Shadowlands, and they threw it back in my face and said: ‘Nah, you are wrong.’
So: Damn good job, Blizzard. Thank you.

As someone who has enjoyed M+ in this expansion more than in previous add-ons, this is really the cherry on top, and I can wish for nothing else. God, the best expansion in a long time.

The absolute best ‘Quality of Life’ improvement for Mythic+/PvE content.
Thank you Blizzard for listening to your players.
This is the perfect stepping stone for anyone who enjoys running dungeons but is unable to commit to fixed raid times.
