A few clever fans of WoW have found a good hint about when Patch 8.2 might finally be released.
In World of Warcraft, most players are eagerly waiting for the release of the next major update. The Patch 8.2 Rise of Azshara has been on the PTR for many weeks and is being extensively tested. However, the player base is slowly becoming restless, with more and more people complaining that there is nothing to do and that Artifact Power is simply wasted.
It seems that players have found a possible release date in the shutdown of the “Refer a Friend” system.
The “Refer a Friend” system in retirement: The “Refer a Friend” system in World of Warcraft will soon be shut down to be revamped. The shutdown date is June 11, 2019 – a Tuesday. After that, it will no longer be possible to refer friends in WoW and receive special rewards.
Shutdown just before the patch? Players now suspect that the shutdown of the system is directly related to the launch of Patch 8.2. After all, the system is being shut down on a Tuesday, which is just a few hours before a Wednesday. Wednesday is the typical patch day in World of Warcraft. Traditionally, maintenance occurs on Wednesdays, and patches are also deployed then.
Big changes require a patch: Fans assume that a patch will be needed to disable the “Refer a Friend” system in the game. After all, referring can currently also be done in-game through the social menu. To remove this feature, a patch is required. This aligns with past experiences.
Blizzard has not confirmed this yet, but usually announces release dates for patches only a few days in advance. In a few days, we will know if there is any truth to this theory.
