A quest line from World of Warcraft has been removed. Especially bitter: it is actually an important part of the current story …
The Patch 8.3 Visions of N’Zoth has not only expanded World of Warcraft with some content but has apparently also removed some content. This has now been noticed by the first players who wanted to relive a popular quest line. The absurd part is that this fairly extensive quest line was only implemented in the game a few months ago. And this, when the mood is already bad.
What is the quest line about? The Quest “On the Trail of the Black Prince” told the search for the black dragon Wrathion. As Spiritwalker Ebonhorn is attacked by the Void in the Heart Chamber, Magni, MOTHER, and the player search for a solution.
You travel back and forth across the world in search of Wrathion, who has installed his agents everywhere. Along the way, you discover new records of the black dragon step by step and even have to go into the catacombs of Karazhan to find a saving potion for Ebonhorn.
Why is the quest line important? The quest connects the current events of the story and explains why Wrathion appears in the Throne Room of the Alliance in Patch 8.3. In addition, the quest line contained a lot of background knowledge about the black dragon, as it was essentially a “scavenger hunt” where you found more and more diary pages from Wrathion and learned more about his motivations and actions.
The quest line forms the basis for Wrathion to currently be able to develop a defense against the Void and the influence of N’Zoth.
Why was the quest removed? There is no exact reason for this, as there was no hint in the patch notes for Patch 8.3, leaving a lot of room for speculation.
Some players suspect that Blizzard removed the quest so that new players could catch up faster and reach the current content more quickly. Another theory is that Blizzard wanted to prevent nasty memes. It would be strange to accept the “Find Wrathion” quest in the Heart Chamber while Wrathion is standing right in that chamber.
Others suspect that the developers had actually planned more with Wrathion but had to abandon those plans to focus entirely on Shadowlands instead.
Players are angry, vent frustration: This discovery is being wildly discussed in the WoW subreddit. Players are especially dissatisfied.
As vladtheimplierIII says:
I have been taking this expansion slowly, I haven’t stopped, and yet I somehow missed this quest. I’m pretty angry about it. […] It doesn’t make sense to me to remove this quest. Just make it optional. I don’t understand.
Or as Grockr puts it:
Wow. For someone like me who hasn’t played since Patch 8.0 and is just catching up on old stories (like Nazjatar) until I reach the new content, this kills any desire to come back at some point.
Other quests have been removed before: This is not the first time that such an important quest has been removed from the current addon. The quest line where you bring MOTHER to the Heart Forge can no longer be found in the game.
New players and latecomers now have to complete fewer tasks to catch up to the current state of the story – but important story elements are missing. This is especially sad when it comes to quest lines that were even partially voiced.
