WoW Patch 8.3 – Blizzard will “Titanforging” replace

With Patch 8.3, many things in World of Warcraft will change. This includes the mechanics of “Titanforging”, which could soon be replaced.

That items in WoW can be titanforged has been in the game for quite some time. Occasionally, loot is randomly upgraded and is then significantly stronger than it would normally be. This system may be shaken up a bit in Patch 8.3, as Blizzard has mentioned changes.

What is the problem with Titanforging? Titanforging divides the WoW community. Many players dislike it because you can no longer specifically farm for the best items, but also have to hope for a minimal chance that the corresponding item will be upgraded.

Moreover, there is the rare case where players pull an item from “easy” content that is stronger than what mythic raid players receive. Many players find this unfair.

Furthermore, Titanforging has too many “RNG” mechanics. The appearance of a socket can drastically improve the value of an item, even though it is several item levels behind a supposedly “comparable” item.

What does Blizzard want to change? Ion Hazzikostas revealed in the introduction video for Patch 8.3 that the old god N’Zoth is currently attacking various Titan forges. The developers have therefore asked whether they should not also modify the “Titanforging” system. Even if Hazzikostas does not mention any concrete plans, they intend to create something “twisted and corrupted” as fits the Old Gods. At the same time, they want to ensure that the hardest content comes with the best rewards in the game.

How are players reacting? In the comments, for example on wowhead, many players are demanding the complete abolition of this system. They do not want any variation of it; it should simply disappear.

Others fear that this is just a new implementation of additional effects on items, similar to the “benthic” gear in Patch 8.3. This is also unwelcome at least among the vocal part of the community.
