Blizzard has canceled BlizzCon 2021. Those looking for info on WoW, Overwatch 2 or Diablo 4 will not learn it at a live event in California. Instead, Blizzard is planning an online event for 2022.
This is the news at a glance:
- Blizzard cancels BlizzCon 2021
- It is believed that due to the guidelines in California because of the pandemic, such an event in November 2021 is still not feasible or would be associated with great uncertainties.
- Therefore, they want to spare themselves and the partners the months of preparation for an “epic event”
- As a replacement, Blizzard is planning an online event in 2022, which is supposed to bring the most important information
“Blizzard discussed BlizzCon 2021 and decided against it”
This is what Blizzard says: Saralyn Smith reaches out to the fans and hopes everyone feels comfortable and safe. The post is thus once again under the sign of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Executive Producer of BlizzCon states that they know how much every fan misses BlizzCon and many surely wonder what the plans at Blizzard look like to meet again in California.
But Blizzard has decided not to hold a BlizzCon in 2021.
A BlizzCon requires months of preparation from Blizzard employees and many partners. Because the pandemic situation is still so uncertain, they did not want to impose on anyone to pull off such an event for November 2021.
There are ongoing “difficulties and uncertainties” due to the pandemic.
Ultimately, this is not the time to develop the kind of event that they want to create at Blizzard.
This is the replacement: So that fans do not have to wait too long for information, they are planning a new “global event for the start of 2022” to present an online show, like “BlizzConline 2020.”
Blizzard is looking forward to seeing players in Azeroth (WoW), the Outlands (WoW: TBC), in Sanctuary (Diablo), and everywhere around the world.
How important the release of Blizzard’s new games is (Diablo 4, Overwatch 2, Diablo Immortal), we have known for some time. An insider report recently clarified this:
Blizzard hires Trump employees and is slowly bleeding out, says insider
