World of Warcraft is quite linear in most quests and rarely presents players with a choice. However, in Battle for Azeroth, this was the case multiple times, as players could not only choose for or against Sylvanas but also indirectly swear loyalty to the Old God N’Zoth. This has new consequences in Patch 8.3 Visions of N’Zoth, which only a few players get to see.
What is it about? During Patch 8.1.5, players in World of Warcraft became corrupted. They received the “Gift of N’Zoth”, a large eye on their forehead. With it, players could see certain dialogues and recognize other players who also possessed the eye. Those who wanted could have the eye “cleansed” and were no longer a servant of N’Zoth. However, some players held on to it and still carry the eyes today.
In the past, they were already rewarded with creepy whispers. But in Patch 8.3, there is even more.
What happens in Patch 8.3? The dataminers from wowhead have already read the game data and found some interesting passages. It seems there are “faithful” NPCs who continue to believe in the Old God N’Zoth even after he has been defeated. The following dialogues are only accessible to players with the Gift of N’Zoth and only after defeating N’Zoth in the Ny’alotha raid:
“Greetings, fellow believer. Do you still hear the whispers?”
“I can no longer see the way into the future. We must hope that He will show us the way.”
“I see you.”
“How could we have been so wrong?”
“We were blind. We are now blind. I must blind all eyes.”
“Blind all eyes.”
“What did we allow him to see? Which part of this horror was our own?”
“Please, whisper to me. I need your guidance.”
“The silence is deafening.”
“I’ve heard the rumors. They say he is dead. Killed in Ny’alotha.”
“That cannot be. We still bear his gift.”
“I don’t believe mortals could win such a fight.”
“What should we do now?”
“We should be careful. Those who defeated him might now turn on us.”
“Have faith in him.”
These sentences clearly show that there are still characters who remain loyal to N’Zoth. While many may doubt after his death, it seems clear that the gift continues to exist. So, is N’Zoth really defeated? Or has he deceived everyone and is not gone at all?
Even some vendors are acting crazy: Apparently, even some vendors have sworn loyalty to N’Zoth. Because from them, you hear:
“We only have the best, freshest vegetables!”
“Fresh cookies, fresh cookies, and warm milk!”
“Not even the entropy of the universe can beat these offers!”
“I have deals so crazy, you will think I’ve lost my mind!”
“For a limited time, swear your immortal loyalty to N’Zoth and receive additional discounts!”
At BlizzCon, the developers left it open whether it would be worthwhile to remain loyal to N’Zoth until the end. Whether there will still be an actual reward in the form of a toy, title, or cosmetic items remains to be seen. It is definitely exciting that the developers are considering such little details for players who have retained the Gift of N’Zoth until today.
