With the upcoming weekly update, Blizzard will lift the weekly restrictions on the currencies of Conquest and Valor points in WoW Shadowlands. You can then farm as much as you want, which benefits returning players and those who have multiple characters.
What exactly is Blizzard changing? Basically, Blizzard is just removing the restriction on how much you can earn from the two currencies. Previously, you could earn a maximum of 750 Valor points per week and a maximum of 1,100 Conquest.
These restrictions will be lifted with the weekly update on May 11.
What are the currencies used for?
- The Valor points introduced with Patch 9.0.5 are used to upgrade gear from Mythic+.
- Conquest, on the other hand, is a PvP currency with which you can buy suitable gear for PvP.
Since there are no weekly restrictions, you can farm as much of these currencies as you want. This especially benefits fans of Twinks or returning players who do not yet have the perfect gear. With these currencies, you can nearly reach the maximum item level.
Caps will be lifted, but are still tied to ratings
What do the changes mean specifically? New players or new characters can gear up faster in PvE or PvP without the restrictions, provided you are willing to invest that time.
However, some upgrades are still tied to a rating:
- Anyone wanting to overcome item level 252 in PvE needs at least a rating of 600 in Mythic+. For item level 272, a rating of 2,000 is even required.
- Anyone wanting to achieve a higher item level in PvP needs at least a rating of 1,000 for level 252 and a rating of 2,400 for the highest item level 275.
Why are there even weekly restrictions? The restrictions are meant to prevent players from ‘bingeing’ the content right at the start of an expansion or update to max out their gear. Because then they would finish the content within a few days or weeks and have nothing left to do.
However, WoW already released the last major update for Shadowlands – Patch 9.2 – in February. Although Patch 9.2.5 will follow with some changes, such as to the capital cities, there will not be much new content anymore. Therefore, this weekly cap can now probably be removed by Blizzard without concerns.
