The old Scholomance is a hidden highlight in patch 10.1.5 of World of Warcraft. We’ll tell you how to unlock the dungeon from 19 years ago.
Patch 10.1.5 Rifts in Time is full of new content and not all of it is immediately obvious. For some of the new features in World of Warcraft, you need to uncover some secrets – like accessing the old Scholomance. We’ll tell you how to unlock the old version of the dungeon and what it brings you.
What is the secret about? This concerns the “old” Scholomance, meaning the original dungeon from the vanilla version of World of Warcraft. The dungeon was revamped with the Mists of Pandaria expansion and has since only been accessible in its new variant. However, with a new secret, you can also unlock the “old” dungeon Scholomance again.
What does the old Scholomance offer? Above all, the opportunity to obtain some interesting transmog rewards that are no longer available in the game. The bosses of Scholomance drop many unique equipment pieces for all armor classes, as well as some recipes that have not been in the game for a long time. With the old Scholomance, you have the chance to complete your transmog collections and unlock some long-forgotten designs.
Unlocking the Old Scholomance in WoW Dragonflight – Here’s how
To unlock the old Scholomance, you first need the toy “Krastinov’s Bag of Horrors.” This drops from Doctor Theolen Krastinov, a rare enemy in the new version of Scholomance. You don’t need to personally own the toy – it’s enough if a friend has it and accompanies you to start the quest.
Step 1: The visit to Eva Sarkhoff
First, you need to visit Scholomance in its current version. Enter the dungeon and complete it almost entirely. In the final room (where you fight Darkmaster Gandling), go up the stairs. Three rooms are accessible from here, in addition to the way back to the beginning area of the dungeon. Visit the middle room and look to the left side, where a few bones lie.
Here, you or another player must now use “Krastinov’s Bag of Horrors.” This will spawn the ghost of Eva Sarkhoff, but she is frightened. The character with the Krastinov’s bag buff must now click away the buff.
Talk to Eva and she will give you “Inactive Spectral Essence”.
Step 2: Activating the Essence
To activate the essence, you need:
- 3x Dark Rune
- 5x Essence of the Undead
Both items can be obtained with some luck in Scholomance or in the Plaguelands. However, it’s easiest to buy them at the auction house – usually, the items are available in the high thousand range.
Step 3: The Femur
If you have left Scholomance, re-enter it and go back to the room where the ghost of Eva Sarkhoff was. Equip the Spectral Essence and you will be able to loot “Eva’s Femur” from the small pile of bones.
Leave the dungeon and the associated building. Here you will see Eva’s ghost in front of Scholomance. Talk to her and she will explain what you need for a ritual: her book and five candles, which you can obtain from the former inhabitants of Darrowshire.
Step 4: The 5 Candles
To get the 5 candles, you need to equip the Spectral Essence, as only then can you see the ghosts of Darrowshire. However, the NPCs won’t just give you the candles; they want something in return. You need to find a total of 5 items in the Plaguelands that you can then trade in:
- The Way Out: A picture in the Eastern Plaguelands, at coordinates 56 / 66, in one of the houses of Corin’s Crossing.
- Undelivered Smokes Delivery: A tobacco crate in the dungeon Stratholme. Enter the dungeon through the main entrance and turn left twice. A small package lies on a cart.
- The Ownership Certificate of Andorhal: A document from the Western Plaguelands at coordinates 44 / 70. Simply enter the town hall of Andorhal; the document is hanging like a poster on the wall.
- Well Water from Darrowshire: You can find the well water right at the well of Darrowshire, at coordinates 69 / 79.
- Trampled Doll: The doll is in the Eastern Plaguelands in Darroheim. It is located at coordinates 36 / 84 next to an old meat cart.
Step 5: Eva’s Diary
The last item you need can be found again in Scholomance. Enter the dungeon once more and head to the lecture hall (where the crazy professor and his students are). Now orient yourself towards the exit of the room, as if you were going to the final boss. There you will find several bookshelves. In one of the shelves lies “Eva’s Diary,” which you can loot. The book is quite hard to see, and it may be helpful to approach the shelf “from behind” to click on it more easily.
Step 6: The Ritual
With all 5 candles, Eva’s diary, and her femur, leave the dungeon again. However, you remain in the Scholomance building. Instead of going left to the dungeon portal, go right. Enter the room in the northeastern corner of the structure. Here you can use Eva’s diary and complete the ritual.
Congratulations! This way, you have unlocked the “Memory of Scholomance.” From now on, all of your characters can enter the old Scholomance using this book and collect the old transmogs, recipes, and even a toy.
