In World of Warcraft new rules apply from today when it comes to boosting. We will tell you what is changing.
In World of Warcraft today the Patch 9.2.7 went live. This is likely to be the last update of the “Shadowlands era”, after which the pre-patch for Dragonflight (10.0) is expected. Nevertheless, Blizzard has introduced some interesting changes with Patch 9.2.7. One of them concerns the controversial boosting groups, which now have new rules.
Boosting is when an experienced player (or several) leads other players through difficult content and helps them earn some tough boss kills or high ranks in PvP. The players are then “boosted” to a performance that they could not achieve alone. Although this is considered controversial, boosting for in-game currency (like gold) is allowed in World of Warcraft.
What has changed? From today, with Patch 9.2.7, there is the new chat channel “Trade (Services)” specifically for such boosting offers. Along with this come some changes to the rules for World of Warcraft.
As of today, promoting boosting offers outside the designated channel is no longer allowed and is now considered “spam”. Corresponding messages can be reported with a right-click and can lead to bans for too many violations – either just for the chat or, in the case of repeat offenders, even for the entire account.

What if you don’t want to see this? All general chat channels, including the “Trade (Services)” channel, can be hidden by right-clicking on the chat tab and then selecting “Settings”. It is also possible to permanently leave channels with the chat command “/leave [Channel number]” and only return when needed.
The result should be that players are significantly less annoyed by boosting offers and the trade channel finally serves its original purpose – to celebrate juvenile puns and link [Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker].
What is prohibited? Blizzard has now issued a whole series of prohibitions regarding the promotion of such services. They may now only be offered in the designated channel and also only on the realm where you want to offer these services. Offering services across multiple realms with many secondary characters is prohibited, just as creating “Group Finder groups” that explicitly promote boosts. All these violations can be reported.
Aside from that, of course, offering and executing any boosting services is still prohibited if real money is involved. Those who pay or charge money for such services with real money risk a hefty account ban of several months to the complete closure of the account in case of repeat offenders.
What do you think of this new regulation? Good thing or totally “meh”?
