With Patch 8.0, Blizzard introduced a new NPC in World of Warcraft. Players are now puzzled about the Nightborne and whether the Suramar cat lady might be part of a new riddle.
New cat lady in WoW: In the instance “Court of Stars”, there is a new NPC since Patch 8.0: Lady Chaton.
Lady Chaton can be found in one of the houses near the 2nd boss Talixae Flamewreath and is accompanied by five little kittens.
Lady Chaton – a new riddle-NPC with kittens?
Lady Chaton (Chaton is French for “kitten”) was first discovered by riddle hunters from the “WoW Secrets Discord”, who forwarded their finding to wowhead.
Her mana kittens are named Mauntz, Graupelz, Bella, Schatten, and Frau Flauschibausch.
Petting kittens gives buffs: The little mana kittens are not only Lady Chaton’s companions, but can also be petted by players. A petted kitten receives the buff “Purring”, which is stackable up to 10 times and lasts for 6 seconds.
When the buff expires, or if you pet a kitten that already has 10 stacks, it jumps at you with “Mana Scratches” and stuns you for one second. According to the files, there are four different variations of “Mana Scratches”, but their triggers are still unknown.
Possibly a new riddle: If you talk to Lady Chaton about her cats, she tells you some details about her kittens (via wowhead). She talks about the character and peculiarities of each one:
- Schatten often loses his toy and enjoys visiting the menagerie of Suramar and the Twilight Grove.
- Also introduced with Patch 8.0 are two variants of a buff called “Lost Cat Toy” that might be related to Schatten.
- Mauntz was brought home by Schatten and was initially very shy. He can no longer resist treats and is Lady Chaton’s best friend.
- Frau Flauschibausch is an ancient cat who has taken a liking to finer food like mana cakes.
- Bella is at odds with Frau Flauschibausch and has already lost an ear due to this rivalry.
- Graupelz enjoys climbing and stealing toys, especially from Schatten. When he joined Lady Chaton, there were only three other cats; Bella was just a little kitten.
The clues leave riddle fans hoping that a riddle is hidden here. It seems likely that the kittens need certain items brought to them. The correct number of pets probably plays a role as well.
Easter eggs referencing real life: Blizzard likes to play with Easter eggs that reference events in real life. Lady Chaton seems to be no exception.
Many players suspect that she is a reference to the viral video “eHarmony Video Bio”.
In the video, “Debbie” creates a video for a dating site and expresses her extreme affection for cats.
