A new cinematic prepares for the next patch in World of Warcraft. The community agrees: This is really strong!
In World of Warcraft, the waiting time is slowly coming to an end. Not only is BlizzCon approaching, along with the announcement of the next expansion, but also the Patch 10.2 Guardians of the Dream. The update is set to be released on November 8, and to prepare for it, Blizzard has already released the first cinematic.
What does the cinematic show? The video “A Crown of Flames” features Fyrakk, the embodiment of fire. He is currently in the Firelands and has apparently made a pact with the Druids of the Flame – many will remember them from the Firelands raid in “Cataclysm”.
The Druids of the Flame help Fyrakk to enhance his axe with special runes. While Fyrakk delivers a monologue about his wrath and desire for revenge, it becomes clear that he is now acting alone – he no longer listens to Iridikron, who has disappeared into the Void, nor to his sister Vyranoth, who has joined the aspects.
As Alexstrasza, the other aspects, and some heroes (like Tyrande) prepare to protect the new World Tree Amirdrassil in the Emerald Dream, Fyrakk reaches for his axe and tears a rift in the dimensional planes. This allows him and the troops from the Firelands to step into the Emerald Dream, bringing the scorching fire with them.
How the community reacts: The cinematic receives a lot of praise in the comments – which is quite unusual. Many recent WoW videos have received negative reviews (mostly videos about new shop content), but the story cinematics are gradually becoming better received. Here are some reactions from the YouTube comments:
- “Let’s be real, Fyrakk is simply a terrifying and better written villain with more character than the Jailer from Shadowlands. I had goosebumps during every one of his appearances.” (by fenrus6614)
- “This reminds me a lot of the old patch trailers we got from Classic to Cataclysm, and that’s exactly what I’m here for!” (by parkermcgeorge)
- “Let’s just hope that when he dies, he doesn’t also say he just wanted to help us protect us from something even bigger.” (by Jeffy-331)
What is your opinion on this trailer? Do you like the direction the story is taking?
