The WoW player Rextroy is cleaning up again. Now he even defeats mythically equipped players with a single attack. We reveal how this works.
Rextroy is becoming more and more a living legend in World of Warcraft. He not only defeats bosses solo or within a single heartbeat, but also sows death and destruction in PvP. In his latest video, he destroys the Horde as a proud Paladin of the Alliance – and completely naked. His enemies don’t stand a chance.
What’s going on? Player Rextroy demonstrates with his Paladin how he annihilates well-equipped enemies of the Horde with just one attack. Almost fully naked, he charges at the opponents, stuns them, and then dismantles them with a single blow. They literally burst and have no chance to counter Rextroy.
How does it work? Rextroy exploits the (sometimes strange) PvP scaling present in Battle for Azeroth. When a player wears bad equipment – or even none at all – they deal a higher percentage of damage with their abilities.
However, without equipment, essential stats like strength, agility, or intellect are missing, making the damage of the character’s regular abilities still low.
This is not the case for “external” abilities that do not belong directly to the character. So bombs or “vehicles” like Xuen in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms.
Rextroy takes advantage of this situation. He undresses his character completely, except for the Heart of Azeroth. He then activates the Divine Shield to gain a few seconds of safety from enemy attacks.
- Now he ignites the Azerite Grenade, which can be obtained in Tiragarde Sound. This increases critical strike chance against the current target by 100%.
- Next, he uses the Azerite Essence “Strength of the Guardian”. Targets hit by this will take 50% more damage for 6 seconds.
- Finally, he deploys the Fire Bomb. This will now guarantee a critical hit of devastating magnitude. Only a few players survive this combo.
Why is the shown number so small? If you watch the video closely, you see comparatively “small” damage numbers. Rextroy deals hits of just under 200,000 damage, but players are dying who have up to 900,000 health points. This is also due to the scaling in PvP. The displayed damage does not exactly match what the victim actually suffers in hit points.
Is that still possible? Only to a limited extent. Blizzard has already disabled a large part of this mechanic, as the Fire Bomb of the Mantis can only be used in Pandaria now. So you can only try this trick in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms.
What do you think about this? A cool and clever exploitation of game mechanics? Or further proof of “Beta for Azeroth”?
