As we age, we overlook small details in World of Warcraft. Therefore, the guild of MeinMMO demon Cortyn swears by a certain addon.
If you are not playing a “3-button specialization” in World of Warcraft, it can get hectic in difficult raids or high-level “Mythic+” dungeons. A lot of warnings from various addons on the screen, colorful spell effects from team members, and dangerous areas on the ground can make it easy to lose track and overlook one small detail completely – the mouse cursor.
What is the problem? In World of Warcraft, the cursor is replaced by a metallic hand that has existed since the early Warcraft games and has only been adjusted a few times in its resolution. While it fits wonderfully with the game, it can easily get lost in the chaos of intense battles – and then the panic sets in as you click on the wrong interface elements or miss your chance.
Which addon fixes this? We’re talking about the small interface extension “CursorTrail,” which allows you to customize your mouse cursor in World of Warcraft. You can download the addon on CurseForge. The main task of the addon is to make your cursor more easily noticeable through various effects. For example, you can place an additional shape under your cursor, such as a conspicuous circle or different spell effects.
In the game, you can open the addon after installation with the command /ct.
If you prefer something a bit more “fancy”, you can also give the cursor a tail so you can better follow its movement. There are also numerous effects to choose from, many of which are already familiar from World of Warcraft – such as the typical lightning effect or a rainbow.
In addition to dozens of effects, you can also precisely adjust the strength of each option to create a cursor tail that is not too intrusive and annoying, but still noticeable enough that you never lose sight of the mouse in the heat of battle. For instance, you can set the effect to only be active while you are in combat or to be disabled while you are moving the camera with the mouse.
To quote a healer from my guild:
“I find it really helpful when I have to run a 20-man raid while still paying attention to ground effects.”
When I responded with “Quote: Our guild grandma”, I only got a snarky reply of “Your mom is a guild grandma” back. Well. You can’t always win.
And even though I like to poke fun at the addon a bit – it is definitely useful for anyone who works with “Mouseover macros” – so in most cases, for healers.
At least in my raid group, many people swear by the addon now. But hey, I have some special cases myself, like the tank who played with “Click to Move” for years.
