So much for luxury goods – the super expensive mount in World of Warcraft for 80 € is a huge success for Blizzard. The cities in the game are full of them.
Last night (October 24, 2024), Blizzard dropped a little bombshell in World of Warcraft. The mount “Gold-Trimmed Trader Brutosaurus” has landed in the game’s shop – and at a pretty hefty price of 78 €. But anyone who thought the developers miscalculated is sorely mistaken. The mount is likely to be a mega success; even the WoW Token has been sold out at times.
Actually, WoW is currently celebrating its 20th birthday:
What kind of mount is this? The “Gold-Trimmed Trader Brutosaurus” is a large dinosaur equipped with two NPCs. One offers access to a mailbox, and the other provides direct access to the auction house – and that from anywhere in the game world.
The auction house feature is the big “selling point” here, as such a feature has only been available once before during the “Battle for Azeroth” expansion. The mount available back then has since become a super-rare variant in the black market auction house, fetching prices of 9,999,999 gold – the highest possible price in WoW.
Just how successful is this mount: Even though there seems to be significant criticism in the comments across various platforms (including here on MeinMMO) – many players are keen on the offer. Just minutes after the offer appeared, the current capital city Dornogal was packed with dark brutosauruses on nearly all realms. You can see some images from the respective posts in the WoW subreddit in this article.
Of course, this also comes with plenty of memes. Because even if there are loud voices criticizing the price of 80 €, many are jumping at the chance.
So some say with a wink: “With this, Blizzard has just financed the next 3 expansions.”
What was going on with the WoW Token? The WoW Token is a way for players to exchange gold for real money. Someone buys the WoW Token for 20 euros in the shop, and others can then buy it for gold from the auction house and receive 30 days of game time or alternatively 13 euros in Battle.net credit. This way, shop mounts can also be indirectly purchased with gold.
With the Trader Brutosaurus, some apparently saw their time come. Because as soon as the offer went live, the price of the WoW Token jumped from just under 300,000 gold to a high of 450,000 gold. At times, all WoW Tokens were even sold out – something that had not been the case in Europe for a long time.
However you look at it, Blizzard seems to have hit the jackpot with the Trader Brutosaurus and is currently generating pretty high additional revenue in World of Warcraft – and the players have a mount with features that, despite the price of 80 €, is much cheaper than the only alternative in the game.
More about World of Warcraft is coming soon – because in a few days, Warcraft Direct will start, a major stream about Warcraft.
