What is a treasure in World of Warcraft: Midnight? Too much, some think. Because you can hardly use the minimap anymore.
The new expansion of World of Warcraft is generally very well received. There is much to do, the new areas are beautiful, and the story is engaging. However, there is a nuisance that can become particularly noticeable at max level when you look at the minimap. The map is overflowing with treasures – but only a few of them truly deserve the name.
What are treasures in Midnight? In World of Warcraft, the definition of what a treasure is and therefore displayed on the minimap is extremely broad:
- In the best case, it is indeed an important treasure – a toy, a weapon, or a transmog item.
- In the worst case, it is a container that contains a gray item that may be worth 2 gold or less.
Treasures that are not worth the name
What problem arises in the endgame? Once you reach level 90 and unlock the endgame activity around Saltheril in the Immersang Forest, additional treasures are added. Each of the four factions (Magisters, Blood Knights, World Walkers, Shadows of the Alley) has its own “treasure” variant, which only contains a small amount of a resource needed once a week for an event.
This leads to the minimap being filled with so many supposed treasures that you don’t even get to loot them all – and you don’t want to, because they only contain insignificant junk anyway:
Some comments under the post agree:
- “They lost the meaning of ‘treasure’ or ‘rare enemy’ a long time ago. Most of the time, it’s just a box with junk or something like that.” – HunterNika
- “I like that these things exist (free healing potions and stuff), but maybe they should just use a different color so you can see the rarity at first glance or something.” – Cheesburger2137
What kind of solution could there be? Basically, the community’s opinion seems to be that Blizzard simply needs more icons to open new categories. Things containing resources for events should not be considered ‘treasures’ but should use a different symbol. Furthermore, real treasures should be more clearly distinguished from these small “mini-boxes.” There is already a symbol for large treasures (the treasure chest with a star), but it is used only irregularly.
What is your perception of treasures in the game? Do you like having something to click and open at every corner? Or should treasures be more clearly distinguished so that the “junk” can be filtered out directly?
Real treasures can be found in the depths – but you need to equip Valeera well.
