A major overhaul in World of Warcraft Midnight focuses on the group finder tool. From now on, you will have to provide more details about what you actually want.
Many activities in World of Warcraft cannot be completed alone. While there are NPCs for regular dungeons, you must have a competent group of players by the time you reach “Mythic+”. However, finding the right people is often not that easy. The expectations for a dungeon group can be drastically different. Some want to “rush through” quickly, while others prefer to learn the dungeon at a relaxed pace. This often cannot be reconciled.
A new feature in the upcoming expansion Midnight is set to address this.
What is changing with the group finder? Anyone who creates a group in the group finder in Midnight will have to provide new information. It will now be necessary to explain what kind of group you are creating. This way, others can immediately see what they are getting into when applying to join a group.
New options improve group finder in WoW
What options are available? In total, you can create four different types of groups in Midnight. They fall into the following categories:
- Learning: Suitable for new players and anyone who has never played the selected content.
- Relaxed: A group that focuses on fun and takes a more casual approach to the content.
- Competitive: A group that wants to maximize performance.
- Carry Offered: A group that will carry you through content and consists of people who know exactly what they are doing – in contrast to the yet-to-be-specified person.
What do the changes bring? The changes are mainly intended to help every type of player find the right group. Those who want to impress with strong performance can apply for competitive groups, and those who are visiting a dungeon for the first time might choose a learning group.
The “Carry Offered” option is still somewhat controversial. Some fear that this will primarily be used for sell runs, which are already polluting the group finder. However, it should be noted that such offers in the group finder are already against the rules, are prohibited, and can be reported.
It is also conceivable that the “Carry Offered” groups refer more to offers that run without gold. There are some communities or groups that simply help others through tough content for fun, to provide them with a mount or achievement – without expecting anything in return.
Currently, it is not possible to filter the different types of groups so that you might only see “Competitive” or never “Carry Offered” groups. This sounds like a feature that Blizzard will likely implement in the near future – after all, the beta of Midnight is still a few months away. However, anyone who wants to can already participate in the beta and try it out themselves.
