The War Mode in World of Warcraft has more or less revolutionized PvP. It made many players give open PvP a chance, even if they had never been interested in PvP before. However, just a few weeks in, the balance in War Mode began to shift. Now, there is a strong imbalance on most server shards – the Horde outnumbers the Alliance in War Mode.
Blizzard is planning additional incentives in Patch 8.1 Tides of Vengeance to assist the underrepresented faction.
The problem in War Mode: Currently, War Mode can feel unfair. In most cases, the Horde is stronger and has more players than the Alliance. This creates a vicious cycle. The less fun the Alliance has in War Mode, the more Alliance players deactivate the mode. At the same time, the Horde hears that they can activate War Mode without hesitation because there are more rewards without challenge.
As a result, Horde players continue to increase in War Mode while Alliance players decrease.
What does Blizzard want to change? If your faction is underrepresented in War Mode, the War Mode bonus should be higher – depending on the “disadvantage” being greater. The exact values are not yet known, but the bonus on war resources, gold, and artifact power could possibly increase from 10% to 15% or even 20%.
Whether Blizzard creates enough incentives with Patch 8.1 for the Alliance to dare to enter War Mode again, we will experience in mid-December when Patch 8.1 is released.
