With Patch 9.1, the Legendaries in WoW: Shadowlands receive an upgrade to higher levels. Game Director Ion Hazzikostas has now explained in an interview what you need for this upgrade.
What happens to the Legendaries? With the upcoming Patch 9.1, you can upgrade your Legendaries to levels 5 and 6, making them stronger. They will be upgraded to item levels 250 and 260 respectively. However, you will need the new material “Soul Cinders”, such as: Soul Ash (formerly known as “Mega Soul Ash”).
You can obtain this new Mega Soul Ash starting at level 9 in Torghast, which will be expanded with levels 9-12 in 9.1. You also had to visit Torghast for the earlier levels of the Legendaries. You can already find the “normal” Soul Ash there, which you needed for the upgrades from level 1 to 4.
A positive aspect is also that you can obtain both resources at the same time. Those who are in the higher levels of Torghast will be able to receive both materials as a reward in the future. This makes farming easier, and you will not have to decide whether to upgrade an old Legendary or craft a new one.
How to craft and upgrade Legendaries is explained in this guide: How to Craft Legendary Items in Shadowlands.
Refund and Reforge for Legendaries Coming Later
What else did Hazzikostas reveal? In an interview with livestreamer Preach, the Game Director revealed that features for exchanging (Refund) and reforging (Reforge) Legendaries are planned (via Twitch).
However, these are unlikely to make it into the game with Patch 9.1. These two features are planned for the future.
What do the new Legendaries look like? You can already admire some new Legendaries on the PTR, which will be introduced for each class. We have already presented 10 of them in an article. The special feature is that they enhance the corresponding Covenant ability of your class.
Some of them sound really strong, including the Venthyr Legendary for all Rogue specializations and the Kyrian Legendary for Paladins.
What else does Patch 9.1 bring? The highlights of Patch 9.1 are:
- The new story
- The new area Korthia
- A new chapter of the Covenant campaign
- Flying in Shadowlands
- The new raid: Sanctum of Domination
- A new Mega-Dungeon
There is no exact release date for the update yet. However, Hazzikostas revealed that Patch 9.1 and the new expansion “The Burning Crusade” for WoW Classic will not be released at the same time, even though they are currently being tested at the same time:
