Eight new race-class combos have been confirmed for World of Warcraft. And the probably silliest of them is finally becoming a reality.
The choice of race in World of Warcraft also determines which class a hero can choose. This will also be the case in Dragonflight, as the new race of Dracthyr can only become a Evoker. However, Blizzard wants to relax these restrictions for the old races and ultimately even remove them completely. With the next expansion “Dragonflight”, a very special combo will therefore be allowed:
Tauren Rogues.
Tauren Rogues are a myth and a joke that has existed for almost two decades. The oldest WoW veterans will surely still remember this joke:
“What if there are Tauren Rogues, but they are just so good that you never catch them?”
What was said? In an interview with MrGM, Brian Holinka of the WoW team talked about some changes with patch 10.0. Specifically, it was about whether there would be new race-class combinations. Holinka explained:
You know, we have this rough direction. I don’t want to make any big promises right now, but we feel like we want to move towards a world where a character’s race is not a limitation on what they can be in World of Warcraft.
We are working towards that, but not all classes have the same requirements for content. More of that will come over time, but directly with 10.0 we will make Rogues, Mages, and Priests available for all races. So anyone can go out and sneak around with their stealthy Tauren Rogue.
Thus, Holinka made it clear: Tauren Rogues are coming, and whoever wants to fulfill their mooing stealth dream can do so soon.
What is the goal? The stated goal according to Brian Holinka is that eventually, almost all restrictions should be lifted. Belonging to a race should not determine what a character can be in World of Warcraft. So we can expect that sooner or later all barriers will fall. Whether some exceptions will remain, such as for Demon Hunters or Evokers, is still unclear – but it would at least make sense, as in these cases the animations are closely adapted to the respective race and also historically the races are tied to these classes.
Which new race-class combinations are then possible? If it actually happens as Holinka promises, then the following new combinations will be possible with patch 10.0:
- Highmountain Tauren Mage
- Tauren Mage
- Highmountain Tauren Priest
- Orc Priest
- Draenei Rogue
- Lightforged Draenei Rogue
- Highmountain Tauren Rogue
- Tauren Rogue
What do you think about the restrictions being lifted? A good thing for more freedom? Or does that ruin the lore of the individual races?
