New details about the allied race of the Mag’har Orcs in World of Warcraft reveal interesting things about the alternate Draenor. The Draenei have become fanatics and warmongers.
With the upcoming expansion Battle for Azeroth of World of Warcraft, the Mag’har Orcs are joining the Horde. Data miners have now extracted from the game data how exactly this takes place. The scenario casts a rather “dark light” on the fate of the alternate Draenor. We reveal what has happened there.
Since this involves story elements from Battle for Azeroth, there are some smaller and larger spoilers. You have been warned.
When we left the alternate Draenor at the end of “Warlords of Draenor” and left the Draenei, Yrel, Grommash, and the Orcs to their own fate, it felt unsatisfying. After all, all the characters established in the story did not appear in Legion anymore (except for Gul’dan). With Battle for Azeroth, this theme is once again addressed – namely in the introduction scenario for the Mag’har Orcs for the Horde.
What happens in the scenario?
The Orc Eitrigg proposes to Sylvanas to expand the Horde with the clans from the alternate Draenor. A journey to the alternate Draenor is extremely difficult and fraught with great dangers, yet Sylvanas manages to construct a portal there once again.
Apparently, many years have passed in Draenor while the battle against the Legion raged on Azeroth. In dialogues with the Orcs, it is revealed that the reconstruction of Draenor took place peacefully – Orcs and Draenei worked together. Those were “good years”.
But as soon as the common goal was achieved, the Draenei turned to the Light and the Naaru more strongly. The Naaru convinced the Draenei to expand the influence of the Light over the Orcs. Some Orcs willingly converted, while others were forcibly compelled. Under the leadership of the High Exarch Yrel, a kind of crusade has begun to convert all Orcs to the Light – if necessary, also by force.
During the scenario, the Orcs are repeatedly attacked by the traitors and the Draenei, the “Lightbound”. Players must help defend the Orcs. Subsequently, the Orcs are offered to join the Horde in Azeroth – however, at the risk of never being able to return to Draenor, as it may not be possible to create a portal again.
A few more exciting facts from the alternate Draenor:
- Durotan and Draka have a daughter (instead of their son, Thrall)
- Durotan was killed by the Lightbound
- The son of Grommash has joined the Lightbound (Garrosh?)
Please note that these details are still information from the beta. The storyline may still change before the release of Battle for Azeroth in August.
Cortyn thinks: I need to revise my opinion on the Mag’har Orcs. I like the story as Blizzard is handling it now. Especially the fact that portals to the alternate Draenor are “virtually impossible” appeals to me. I also find it interesting and exciting that the Draenei and Yrel have developed into fanatics there.
