The German player base of World of Warcraft is losing its community manager. What is surprising is that no successor is in sight.
After the many bad news surrounding Blizzard in recent days and weeks, German-speaking players of World of Warcraft must now take another hit. The German community manager Toschayju is stepping down. His last working day at Blizzard is October 17, 2019.
Toschayju was very popular: Toschayju was very popular among German-speaking players because he actively participated in the forum and was also up for some fun. He was always seen as friendly in the community, and most were completely satisfied with his work as a CM for the German-speaking area. He frequently advocated for role players and relayed their feedback to Blizzard, even when it did not lead to a Classic RP server.
Why is Toschayju leaving? Toschayju does not reveal a reason for his departure as community manager. He describes his 12 years at Blizzard, especially the 4 years as community manager for the German-speaking area, as “the best time of his life”. In the future, he will move back to Germany, where “new tasks, new adventures, and worlds” await. It is conceivable that he will work in the community team of another game.

No successor coming? What is surprising in Toschayju’s farewell post is that he does not mention a successor. Usually, such farewell posts refer to successors who will take over the position from now on. The fact that Toschayju does not mention such a successor raises concerns among fans that the position may remain unfilled in the future. It may be that there will be no German community manager anymore.
It is also possible that his departure is still part of the “great layoff wave” at Blizzard that began about a year ago. Back then, they wanted to invest more resources in the development of games and less in all other areas – community management likely falls under that.
