How fast can you actually reach level 50 in WoW: Shadowlands? The pro DesMephisto shows it – and takes less than one evening.
In the next WoW expansion Shadowlands, the leveling phase is once again fundamentally revised.
This is not only due to the fact that the level cap drops from 120 to 50, but also because of a new starting zone and a clear distinction between the individual expansions. Those who want can choose an addon and level from level 10 to 50 there.
At the same time, the developers want to significantly accelerate the leveling process. At BlizzCon, they mentioned a 60%-70% faster leveling speed. Just how drastic this effect is, has recently been shown by a player.
This is how fast leveling goes: While many are testing the endgame in the Alpha of Shadowlands, DesMephisto prefers to play the “old” content and levels a character up to level 50. He has chosen the Battle for Azeroth expansion, as he benefits from the Azerite gear. Leveling goes by in a flash, so he reached level 50 after 5 hours and 26 minutes – equivalent to level 120 in the current World of Warcraft. He has significantly broken his old record of 7 hours.

Though DesMephisto leveled an Allied race that starts at level 10, this only saves him about 20 minutes – the first 10 levels go by in less than half an hour.
What tricks did DesMephisto use? DesMephisto has already made a name for himself in the WoW community, as he has almost 50 warriors at max level. He is also a well-known “speed leveler” who has nearly perfected his leveling route. He approaches it the same way in the Alpha of Shadowlands. Some of his tricks and tips include:
- Enchant all heirlooms as much as possible.
- Completely level in Battle for Azeroth (10-40) to benefit from Azerite gear.
- Wear Azerite gear while questing, but switch to heirlooms when turning in quests.
Will it stay this fast? That is questionable. Currently, the Alpha is still undergoing significant changes, and values such as necessary XP are often adjusted in the last weeks. It is entirely possible that Blizzard is still tweaking some aspects and extending the leveling phase slightly.
However, one should not forget that DesMephisto has nearly perfected his leveling route. Most players will likely not achieve such speed.
