Character transfer in World of Warcraft soon for gold? Blizzard is working on it.
At BlizzCon, the developers of World of Warcraft held a rather long Q&A session, where fans on-site and via Twitter could ask questions to the team. One question also revolved around the WoW Token. Players have been able to buy a Token in the shop for real money for some time now, to then resell it in the auction house for in-game currency. The seller can thus legally earn in-game currency, while the buyer spends gold to extend their game time by one month.
A typical win-win-win situation, as the game token costs more than a one-month subscription, Blizzard benefits nicely from it too.
However, there are a multitude of other character services in the shop, such as a server transfer, faction change, appearance customization, race change, or character renaming. The question was whether it will be possible in the future to pay for these services with the WoW Token.
The surprising answer was “Yes,” even if that is not possible immediately and the exact details of it are still being worked out. However, the developers designed the system at the introduction of the WoW Token so that it can be “relatively easily” expanded to other services in the game.
There is still no concrete date for this possibility, and it is also not yet known whether this will apply to all character services. As soon as there are news on this topic, we will keep you updated.
Cortyn says: It’s actually a logical step to expand this system, benefiting players who do not have the means to pay real money for a server transfer to friends. It remains to be seen whether each service will get its own token or if it can be exchanged like a “token” for various services. It might also be necessary to introduce the “WoW Token” currency here, as many services cost differently. I just hope that there won’t be such a “token chaos” in the auction house as there was with SWTOR.
